Precision Runway Monitor Demonstration Report Disclaimer

The Precision Runway Monitor Demonstration Report (DOT/FAA/RD-91-5) was not a product of the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC), but rather was produced in 1991 by the Precision Runway Monitor (PRM) Program Office, a section of the Research and Development Service, Washington, DC. The significance of the report was that it was an initial demonstration of the benefits of PRM technology through live flight tests, which resulted in a new air traffic control procedure. It launched over a decade of real-time, human-in-the-loop laboratory simulations performed at the WJHTC to establish national and airport-specific procedures for airports using PRM technology.
