Systems Analysis Division Functions
- Provide a focal point for planning, developing, managing, and conducting NAS human-in-the-loop simulations to test and evaluate innovations, advanced concepts, and solutions.
- Provide a focal point for planning, developing, managing, and conducting NAS fast-time modeling and simulation to test and evaluate innovations, advanced concepts, and solutions.
- Participate in research, both domestic and foreign, to develop innovations, advanced concepts, and solutions through cooperative agreements.
- Conduct human factors research as requested by an FAA office or service. Conducts analyses to determine relative impacts of man/machine error, workload capacity, human performance, communications, proficiency, system design, etc.
- Conduct modeling and simulation research as requested by an FAA office or service.
- Participate in the validation and testing of modeling and simulation tools.
- Provide expert consultation services and agency representation at national and international conferences and meetings with members of other Government agencies, academia, and private industry relating to the Technical Center’s functions. Serves as technical advisor to the U.S. members of International Civil Aviation Organization panels and regional planning groups.
- Conduct analyses leading to the development of air traffic system performance measures, criteria, and standards. Applies results to forecasted traffic scenarios to determine required ATC system improvements in domestic and international airspace.
- Develop or translate advanced aviation concepts into analytical and logical models for analysis, testing, and validation. Analyses result in criteria for system factors such as safety and capacity, controller and pilot workload and performance, and cost/benefit in the overall aviation system.

Separation Standards Group LEARN MORE Separation Standards Group, provides analytical assessments of the relationship
between separation standards, emerging technological concepts and new procedures for use in developing future
airspace separation minima. The Group conducts research, testing and validation of advanced aviation separation
and airspace concepts in analytical and modeled environments to determine its technical and operational
performance suitability and usability. |
Capacity Modeling and Analysis Group
LEARN MORE Modeling & Analysis Group, conducts research to validate airport capacity issues
using fast-time simulation techniques. Products resulting from efforts are used in support of investment
decision making for NAS modernization. |
Simulation and Analysis Group LEARN MORE Simulation & Analysis Group, conducts research to validate new aviation concepts,
technologies, and system capacity issues using modeling, rapid prototyping, and real time human-in-the-loop
simulation techniques. The Group adheres to a system engineering validation process to assess the operational
and technical feasibility of proposed system changes to the NAS concept of operations. Products resulting from
efforts are used in support of investment decision making for NAS modernization |
Tower Integration Group LEARN MORE Tower Integration Group, provides a platform to support and evaluate the interior
design and layout, site selection, orientation, height determination studies, and transition of equipment into
the ATCT environment.
