Your peers from throughout the Center and other guest speakers will be discussing their work in a general way suitable for all members of the Center community. The intent of this program is to provide everyone an opportunity to learn more about the work performed at the Center, create a forum for discussion between Center employees and provide a safe environment for individuals to practice their communications skills. Magazine Names The FAA "Top 5" Employer
The current issue of Minority Engineer Magazine, a national publication, features Federal Aviation Administration employee Gregory Davison from the Central Region on the cover, along with a feature story titled, “Public Service & YOU.” Readers of the magazine were asked to name the public and private sector employers for whom they either most would like to work, or that they believe would provide a positive working environment for members of minority groups. The FAA came in fifth on the list of the Top 20 Government Agencies, behind NASA, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Postal Service and the FBI. Lockheed Martin, IBM, TRW, Intel and Verizon were at the top of the list of Top 50 Companies chosen by the magazine's readers. ______________________________

Technical Center Security Advisory As
you are aware, on February 27th, the Attorney General lowered
the threat alert under the Homeland Security Advisory System from High
(Orange) to Elevated (Yellow). After carefully evaluating the impact
that matching the Homeland Security change will have on the overall
security posture at our facilities, we have made the decision to
maintain the SECON measures currently implemented. We want to stress
that this decision is not based on any information that indicates a
specific threat to any of our facilities but rather our desire to keep
our employees, facilities, and the National Airspace System as secure as
possible. We will continue to monitor and evaluate all current
intelligence and threat information and make changes as prudence
dictates. In the meantime, we want you to thank you for your continued
support and urge you to remain vigilant. Please continue to support any
suspicious activity to your local Servicing Security Element. Please
keep in mind the following, as we continue to make our areas safe. Badges Wear
ID badges at all times in a visible location, above the waist.
Security guards will be doing random checks for ID badges.
If you are not displaying or in possession of your ID badge when
asked, the security guard will escort you to your work location to
retrieve your ID.
If you do not have your ID badge with you at work, you will be
escorted to the Security Operation Center (SOC) to get a visitor ID for
the remainder of the day. Vehicles Be
prepared for an increase in random vehicle searches, and realize that
this may cause small delays in arriving at work. Vehicles
entering the facility must have approved parking decals or temporary
parking placards issued by the SOC.
Decals must be adhered to the back of the interior mirror in
order to be seen clearly from the outside as one looks into the vehicle
from the front.
An approved sticker placed in any other area than what is
specified will result in the vehicle not being permitted to enter the
facility.
Temporary security placards must be placed on the dashboard
facing outward without any obstruction to its view, so that it can be
seen in the vehicle whether the vehicle is moving or parked.
Visitors Use
discretion when accepting visitors to the Center, remembering visitors
should be only for official FAA business.
When you have a visitor, that visitor must be escorted at
all times during their stay at the Center. Prepare
visitors that there will be increased screening at the SOC, which will
include a search of any baggage or package to be brought on Center.
Once visitors are searched and receive their visitors’ badges,
they will be directed to a holding area in the SOC to wait for the
shuttle bus.
They will not be permitted to return to their cars and re-enter
without being searched again. Suspicious
Activity or Security Violations Report
any suspicious activity or violation of security policy by dialing 1111
or to the Center SSE at extension 5-6661 during work hours. These are small steps and precautions that each of use can take to help ensure the safety of all Center employees. As security measures at the Center change, I will keep you advised. ______________________________ Count Me In! Your Aviation Education Outreach Program needs your help. We are looking for people who are willing to show high school and college students how the world of research and development works outside of the classroom. We plan to pair students who display an above average ability in math and science with an employee from the William J. Hughes Technical Center whose skills are compatible with the student’s interests. Each student will have an opportunity to job shadow his/her designated “program expert” for a day. At the conclusion of the shadowing experience it is our hope the student and his/her “instructor for the day” will decide to continue in a mentoring capacity. If you are interested in being part of this exciting opportunity to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the future of our next generation, contact Mary Lou Dordan by e:mail at mary.lou.dordan@faa.gov. Let us know if we can COUNT YOU IN. In your e-mail message, please include your name, phone number, organization, specific area(s) of expertise, duty hours, and mail code. ______________________________
