She has co-authored the book “Women and Minorities in Aviation in Alaska” for the State of Alaska Office of Education, designed the Alaska Wing Recruiting Brochure, and authored the Alaska Wing Model Rocketry Supplement used as a Wing standard. As an active member of the Alaska Wing Finance Committee, Captain Dordan’s sound financial expertise served as a foundation managing an annual budget of over $503,000 in state appropriated funds, supporting 1200 volunteers, six paid employees and maintaining 20 million dollars in corporate assets. Her financial skills were paramount in guiding an ever changing wing enabling the funding of major projects such as the removal of the Wing’s hazardous underground fuel storage tanks, refurbishing the Lake Hood Maintenance Facility, building of Lake Hood float docks, refurbishing the Kodiak Hanger, and starting the construction of the Homer and Seward Squadrons’ hangars. Over the course of her tenure, Captain Dordan budgeted $33,500 of Aerospace Education funds in support of 19 squadron programs. Captain Dordan was instrumental in increasing public awareness of Civil Air Patrol by encouraging strong partnerships between the Federal Aviation Administration, Alaska National Guard, Alaska Airmen’s Association, King Career Center, Alaska School Districts and the Civil Air Patrol. Recognized for her expertise and commitment to CAP, Captain Dordan was selected as assistant director of Aerospace Education for the Pacific Region Headquarters. She is the winner of the 2001 Dr. Mervin K. Strickler, Jr. Aviation Education Leadership Award presented to her by the National Coalition for Aviation, recognizing her at the national level for her personal commitment and lifelong contributions in aviation education. Her numerous combined efforts were key to the Alaska Wing being awarded the Unit Citation Award in December 2001 by National Headquarters. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Captain Dordan reflect the highest credit upon herself, the Alaska wing, and Civil Air Patrol.
