New Administrator Marion Blakey Visits Technical Center for First Time

_____________________________________________________________________

On March 7, the newly appointed FAA administrator, Marion Blakey, made her first visit to the William J. Hughes Technical Center along with U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-2nd). “It is a formidable facility and the capabilities keep growing and growing,” said Blakey. “It really is a marvelous resource, not only for the entire country, but for the world.”

Congressman LoBiondo, who has always been a strong supporter of the Technical Center, agreed. “I am very fond of saying to my colleagues that it is the premier facility in the nation for air security and research and development,” said the member of the House Aviation Subcommittee.

The visit showcased much of the ongoing work at the Center including navigations and communications, in-flight demonstrations, tours of the Federal Air Marshals and Aviation Security Research facilities, and stops at terminal, en route, and human factors laboratories. Also accompanying Administrator Blakey and Congressman LoBiondo were Greg Martin, assistant administrator, Office of Public Affairs and David Balloff, assistant administrator, Office of Government and Industry Affairs.

Both Administrator Blakey and Congressman LoBiondo acknowledged the excellent support they received while visiting the Center. Administrator Blakey stated that she enjoyed meeting and greeting the employees of the Tech Center.

Congressman LoBiondo remarked that in all the time he has come to the Tech Center, he has never had time to simply say hello to individuals and tell them what a great job they are doing.  He said the time at the end that allowed him to do that was perfect and he really appreciated it.

Administrator Blakey repeatedly stated the feeling she gets from the Tech Center is unlike that at any other facility. She felt that we are one family and it truly shows.  She reassured those that were concerned with funding issues, stating, “This is a vital facility from the standpoint of the FAA, and certainly maintaining an adequate level of funding is going to be a top priority from the standpoint of this Administration.”
