William J. Hughes Technical Center still photographers use a variety of photographic techniques, including stop-motion, to render creative support to the Technical Center's research, development, and acquisition programs, other FAA, Federal Government agencies, and the aviation industry. They use both conventional film and high resolution digital electronic cameras, complemented by comprehensive in-house photographic facilities. These facilities include photographic laboratories and extensive photographic archives, which are updated regularly by means of digital computer storage.

The photographic teams work from ground-based and airborne platforms, from which they document aviation safety related programs. The images they produce are used for advanced aviation studies, technical publications, and marketing brochures.

Specific areas of support include scientific and industrial applications, emergency response teams, law enforcement agencies, legal offices, and public relations.
